How to Use

Step 1: Pick your input period

  • At the top of the inputs panel, choose Monthly or Annual to tell the tool whether all the numbers you are about to enter cover one month or one full year. The result scales accordingly and always shows you both figures together.

Step 2: Set up your household energy

  • Select your Region from the dropdown: India, USA, China, EU (average), UK, Global average, or Renewable-heavy (Norway). This pre-fills the Grid factor in kg CO2e per kWh for that region’s electricity mix.
  • If your utility publishes a more specific figure for your exact grid or tariff, edit the Grid factor field directly. This is the single most important factor for electricity because a coal-heavy grid like India’s at 0.71 kg/kWh produces more than 23 times the CO2 of Norway’s largely renewable grid at 0.03 kg/kWh for the same electricity use.
  • Enter your Electricity (kWh), your monthly or annual electricity consumption from your bill.
  • Enter your LPG / cooking gas (kg), the weight of cooking gas used in that same period.

Step 3: Add your transport distances

  • Enter your Car distance in km, then select the Car fuel: Petrol, Diesel, CNG, or Electric (grid). Each fuel type carries its own emission factor per km.
  • Enter your Bus distance and Train distance in km, each with its own much lower per-km factor than a private car.
  • Enter any Flight distance in km and select Short-haul or Long-haul. Even one long-haul return flight can add more CO2e than months of daily commuting, which is why flight type matters here.

Step 4: Add diet and waste

  • Select your Diet type: Skip diet if you’d rather leave this out, Vegetarian or Non-Vegetarian. This applies a broad average monthly diet factor. Real food footprints vary widely, but this gives a directional starting point.
