In three-phase systems the √3 factor applies when using line voltage and line current, which is the usual way ratings are quoted; reusing single-phase formulas without it understates power badly. Power factor here is treated as displacement power factor from a sinusoidal waveform, so real installations with harmonics from drives and electronic loads will show a lower true power factor than this calculation suggests, and reactive power that is not compensated raises current, losses and often the bill. Mechanical results assume the torque and speed are at the same shaft and steady, ignoring inertia during acceleration. Horsepower deserves care because mechanical and metric versions differ by roughly one and a half percent, so a motor rated in one is not equivalent to the same number in the other. Efficiency chains multiply rather than add, which is why several individually good stages can still produce a noticeably lower overall figure.
